Make a colour sorting game

I was looking for something to create from all the left over Christmas paper rolls when I discovered this great educational activity at Learning4Kids. Just paint the cardboard rolls in advance and allowed them to dry before masking them to the wall or window.

Hopefully we can see how to make this cute chicken from the photo:

a cardboard roll, some yellow feathers, yellow and orange cardboard.

If we pre cut the shapes a child could glue it together, do you think? also cut 2 slits in top of roll for cardboard to fit into.
